Sponsored by the Reader’s Digest Foundation, the National Youth of the Year Program is designed to promote and recognize service to Club and community, academic performance and contributions to family and spiritual life.

Each month, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Spokane County selects twelve winners that have excelled in categories that correspond to the organization’s five focus programs: Education and Career Development, Character and Leadership Development, Health and Life Skills, The Arts and Sports, Fitness and Recreation. Nominated by mentors, program leaders and staff, Club kids between 6-18 years of age are eligible to be selected and later included in the running for the title of Boys & Girls Clubs of Spokane County’s “Youth of the Year” and earn a $1,000 scholarship to be used toward a college education.

Our local “Youth of the Year” winner then continues on to compete in the state-wide competition in Olympia where he/she will meet with the Governor and present in front of a distinguished panel of judges. All State winners move on to participate in regional competitions where five regional winners are selected and each given an engraved plaque, a $10,000 scholarship and the opportunity to compete for the national title in Washington D.C. The National “Youth of the Year” receives an additional $15,000 scholarship and is installed by the President of the United States

Congratulations to Jurnea Allen, our 2013 Youth of the Year!
