Good Character & Citizenship

Boys & Girls Clubs of Spokane County is a safe place where members have freedom to "find themselves" but know they will be held accountable by their peers, the staff and this community. Through specially-designed programs and adult mentorship and support, Club members learn about Good Character & Citizenship. These young people are our future leaders; they are encouraged to be engaged citizens, get involved in the community, register to vote and model strong personal character.

Highlights:
- The Clubs each present "Youth of the Month" awards in a dozen program area categories which serves as the populous for the "Youth of the Year" award - an intensive process in which the winner represents Spokane in the State competition and meets with the Governor.
- The last two "Youth of the Year" winners have gone on to Eastern Washington University and chosen to work at the Clubs as staff members.
- We offer chartered, leadership clubs that engage members in community service, leadership and career preparation. Our Torch Club (a leadership program for 11-13 year olds) has hosted food and supply drives for local service agencies and our Keystone Club (a leadership program for 14-18 year olds) has provided unique leadership development experiences aimed at making a positive impact on members, the Club and community.
